Demonata: Hell's Heroes

Well, the final book (#10) to this blockbuster series is up for preorder.  It's definitely my "highest concept" of the series and is meant to evoke one response from far away and another as the viewer gets closer.  I admit, I'm a little sad to see this run end...  but maybe it'll become a feature film like its predecessor "Cirque Du Freak!"  I can only hope.  I'll put up the art without any jacket text/border soon.

Lizard Queen concept

This is a piece based on a character that surfaced from my psyche recently.  She would be very tall and lanky and I would love to see her in 3d with really cool staff.  Get in line little lady!

Azrael

Hey hey! I'd like to show you a new sculpt for DC... Azrael!  This version of the character is from the new Batman Reborn story.  Also shown is the resin prototype in blue and the paint master!  At the bottom is a page from this month's Toy Fare magazine with the world premiere shot of the figure.  Thought you might enjoy seeing all the steps that go into make an action figure (excluding steps that explain how I sculpted it, how Mike molded and casted it, and how Eddie Wires painted it.. but you get the picture!)

"Batman Black & White" Statue

This is my latest sculpt for DC Direct.  It was shown at San Diego Comic-Con and this image is the only one that appears on the web.  Eddie Wires did the paints on this one.  Nice job!!!  As soon as they do a press release I will put up some wax sculpt images!  Oh, yeah, Frank Quitely  is one of my favorite artists (this 7" statue was based on his art).. I was ecstatic to be able to work on this.  And, check out his short series called We3.  It is fantastic!

Colossus

Here' s the latest from my contributions to the Hasbro camp. It's a comic-inspired Colossus that stands 4 inches short. Fully articulated and ready to smash really small things.

Wolverine!

Standing at ten inches tall is this ripped and angry Wolverine figure due out from Hasbro. To this day, I'm not sure if I have had as much satisfaction from many other pieces as I have had working on this bad boy. One of my favorite Marvel characters, a nice big scale to work with, and a sizzling deadline. That's the recipe for fun. Should be in your neighborhood soon.

Wolf Island... in the beginning

This is the initial Wolf Island art that got cancelled just as I wrapped it up. The author, Darren Shan, wanted to go with the clifftop scene of the wolfman watching his lesser wolves catch their prey. I think it was a good call but the this image was tons of fun.

This week's sketch night

Here is a figure study from Monday. The open figure drawing class at the Saratoga Arts Center on Monday nights is great. Very nice people, an incredibly talented moderator, and some fine models.

The Mandarin lives

This one goes with the Iron Man Animated show that should be hitting TVs sometime this summer. It IS Mandarin.. not a Ninja Turtles character. Apparantly Mandarin is a Techno-Samurai now. Who knew. He's 4 inches tall and sculpted in wax.

Up from the ashes, straight to the Hotlist

Aaah, Phoenix. It's nice to have pieces acknowledged by the public and publishers (#1 this month according to Toyfare Magazine).. especially when it's a female figure. This one has 23 points of articulation and yes, I put them in while I sculpted it. She stands 12 inches tall and is in stores now!

Here's the art for the highly-anticipated Wolf Island from The Demonata series. It will be in stores May 1.

Life drawing this week

Here is Meghan from Monday's class. I think I will be going with acrylics for a while.

Robostorm

Just started this piece. It's really just an excuse to put my kids in a painting but of course they have to be dismantling a giant robot. One stuns the bot and the other shreds it. I'll keep ya posted.

Galoomp!

Here's a work-in-progress of a creature called a Galoomp from the 'ol Star Wars universe.. it's planet of origin escapes me right now though.

RZA time!

Well, here is one thing that has been taking up some of my time. It's simply a teaser image for some action figures and comics that I and my partners from Skyfarm Studios are putting together. The world famous hip-hop producer/rapper/composer/actor known as The Rza stars in a story we are calling Attack of the Brooklyn Super Ninjas. Yes, it's so crazy it just. might. work!.. To quote Mr. Mark Davis, illustrator/animator supreme.

Punisher sculpt!

Here is a much-requested look at the final wax sculpt for the contemporary-inspired Punisher figure that is hitting stores this month.

Nemesis Build-a-figure

I've been asked a couple times to see a larger final progress image of the Nemesis figure for the current Walmart Exclusive Marvel Legends line.. so here 'e is.

Sabretooth!

This is a recently debuted piece that will have a place in a Wolverine box set. Sabretooth is about 4 inches in height, has 16 points of articulation and is completed in wax. Grrrrrr.

Death's Shadow color art and jacket

It's a little late but here is the color art for Demonata 7 : Death's Shadow. I used a number of techniques for this including pencil and ink, photoshop and Zbrush.

Hulk Legends Doc Samson

This Doc Samson figure is in stores now. At first I was hesitant about taking the character but I soon realized that the anatomy would be fun. These figures can be like puzzles when it comes to hiding articulation and trying to make it look natural.

The Demonata 6 & 7 art before color

Here is a look at the first two covers for Darren Shan's series I did for Little Brown Publishing. The final pieces have color added.. I will upload those soon.
Welcome to the Paul Harding studio blog. Here I will attempt to update the world on what is new at the workshop. There is a huge project in the works and I hope to share it with everyone soon!
